RECREATION COMMITTEE MINUTES  

 

The meeting of the WLE POA Recreation Committee was called to order by Tri Chair Lonnie Galovic at 10:01 a.m. Saturday, July 8, 2023, in the Adult Lodge.  Thirty-one members stood and recited the Pledge of Allegiance.  Lonnie introduced Scott Healy, BOD liaison for Recreation.

Minutes  

Minutes for June were sent to the members to review before the meeting. Lonnie asked if there were any additions or corrections. Frank Carrotozzolo had a correction regarding Rec’s event budgets. Motion made by Carol Greig to accept minutes as corrected   Al Cucciniello seconded motion, raise of hands; no opposition; minutes approved.

The treasurer’s report was read by Joey Marino. Balance forwarded on 5/31/2023 was $39,975.18.  April’s total revenue was $1,290.96; total expenses were $3,134.24.  Consequently, our general ledger balance for 6/30/23 is $31,131.90.   The balance of our checking account is $31,131.99; Venmo $500.00 and CD of $10,000.00 for a grand total of $41,631.90 on June 30, 2023.

Peggy Kostyshyn made a motion to approve Treasurers Report; seconded by Rich Kurz. By raise of hands and no opposition, Treasurer’s Report was accepted. 

Lonnie thanked all volunteers for their time and work.

OLD BUISNESS

Sip-n-paint – Doreen Napoli reported that the June 24 event was a success.  Another Paint & Sip will be August 5.  Drinking glasses will be painted this time.  7:00 P.M. in the MCH, $25 Per person, $26 if Venmo. 

Swim Team – Terry reported that volunteers have been successful in getting donations for Tricky Tray. Possible “Alumni Meet” in planning stage.  Cathy Jordan and Dean Barbier came to the meeting after it began.  There are 70 swimmers on our team.  The team made $1,405 on T shirt sales; $860 on raffle Independence Day, $310 T shirts and $120 from sale of older swimwear.  Total $2,095.  Cost of this year’s T shirt: $1130 – sales of same going smoothly.

Independence Day Picnic – Since July 4 of 2024 falls on a Thursday, Terry C suggested we celebrate on 7/6.  She hoped the Jamaican food will be available for that date.

Event packet – Terry Cucciniello suggested we wait to the end of meeting for this discussion.

Frank Carrotozzolo complained that he was not consulted by the “Facebook tutorial” event which took place on Wednesday nights as does the Movies in the Park.  A reminder to all that chairmen of events on the same day need to check with one another. Brenda Basenese assured him she would be finished before the movie started.

UPCOMING BUSINESS

Frank C also announced that he would chair New Year’s Eve 2023 in the Main Clubhouse. Terry C will reserve Clubhouse for that evening.

Pickle Ball – Frank C. asked if anyone knows where the temporary nets are.

Ceramics – Bruce and Gwenn Phillips started Friday, July 7 and there were 74 people in attendance.  Ceramics is at Beaver Lodge, Tuesday and Friday afternoons from 1-3.  Volunteers are still needed.  

 

Brenda Basenese will present Facebook Workshops July 12, July 19 and July 26 in the Main Clubhouse. These workshops are free; sign-up in office required. Bring laptop, iPad or phone.

Swim Team Pizza dinner – Cassandra Galovic needed help with pizza.  Lonnie offered to supply desserts.

Family Glow Party– Tara Stark reported event cancelled due to lack of interest and that no money was lost. 

April Navarra held CPR training course for $25 per person with certificate.

Music in the Park starts July 15 with Shuttletown Duo. Schedule includes July 29 – The Lights; August 12 – Brian & Friends; and August 26 – The Fabulous 45’s.

Summer bingo –Summer Bingo starts July 11 (Tuesday nights- door opens at 6:30, games start promptly at 7pm)

Stephanie Bradford is all set.

 

Texas Hold’Em – ready to go Friday, July 14, 7:30 p.m. in Beaver Lodge. $20. 

Flea Market – Saturday, July 22 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Kasper Lodge field. No one earlier than 7:00 a.m. Terry C expressed her desire to have banner made for Main Gate Bridge.  Some discussion followed about signage and bulletin

boards.

Comedy night 50 people so far, tickets are moving.

Car Show – Jack Vetter is set to go.  Has trophies; hope we have good weather. They plan to use hotdog cart.

Fishing DerbyTerry C plans to get prizes Monday.  

Beach Party will be August 19 – Martin Logue gave an update.  He has a Polynesian Dance & Fire Show; a DJ; foam machine, Bouncy House for small children; games including corn hole, volleyball; burgers and hot dogs. Ticket prices are $15 – ages 13 & up; $10 – age 5-12; free for under 3. Tickets will be sold in office and by Venmo.  Deadline is August 17 at noon. He will need voluteers.

Triathlon – Al Cucciniello has it scheduled September 2 (Labor Day Weekend).  Flyer is out with details of course.

Cardboard Boat Building  Scheduled Saturday, September 2; race on Sunday. Joelle Lordi is chair.

Tricky Tray – Cathy Jordan told committee that they were lots of donations.  Swim team parents are to supply baskets. 

Craft Shop   Tara S shows $5,288 in year to date sales.  She is $710 short of the break-even point.  She would love to have a few volunteers to cover shop when she is unavailable.  Some training would be necessary.

NEW BUISNESS

 

Card Bingo – will resume Friday nights starting September 8.  The budget will remain the same.

Softball game – property owners vs. employees.  Some interest to host this.  Game would be between 4:30 – 6:30.  Terry C would like a budget of $100.   Peg Kostyshyn made a motion to give this event a $100 budget, seconded by Carole Adams.  Vote of hands, no opposition, motion carried.

Corn Hole – Terry advised that Bill Ramondi plans to hold games on the Sunday of Labor Day Weekend – 9/3.

Heidi Cohen proposed having a DJ at Beaver Pool and a Swim Party – to use this facility; perhaps a “Dip and Dance”.

Joanne Navara reported a fair turnout for the CPR class.  No class is scheduled for tomorrow.

Halloween Parties – Adult and Family – Cassandra G and Siobhan H might be working on this.

Talent Show – no interest shown.  

Haunted House – will be left on agenda.

Octoberfest – Terry C and Cassandra G want to bring back this event in a “low-Key” Fall Festival manner.  Suggested beer and bratwurst.  Thoughts were to celebrate over the Columbus Day Holiday, October 7 – 9.  Perhaps include a pumpkin patch.

Thursday morning coffee – will resume late September or October.

Martin L would like to have a Karaoke Night on September 3 in the Main Clubhouse.  It will be a BYOB and start at 8:00 P.M.

Jack Vetter advised committee against using “hold harmless” verbiage relative to contracts. Board liaison Scott H will take question back to Board and advise committee at next meeting.

Subject of “Axe Throwing” possibility.  Carol Greig has their info.

Discussion of storing small items in Beaver Lodge.

Paul Pogozelski questioned need for a 10 x 20 –  2” metal frame tent.  Peggy K made a motion to budget $450 enabling purchase of tent.  Motion was seconded by Joanne N; raise of hands, no opposition, motion passed.

Martin L. had a question about propane tanks.  He then suggested having one person keep financial records of all events.  Frank C volunteered to do this

Craft Fair – December 2, 12:00-4:00 p.m., MCH.

Event Package– Committee presented their revised document; Scott Healy taking to the Board of Directors for their approval.  He will report back next month.

Elections were the next agenda item. Although a request for nominations was made, the voting process is to start in August, not July, and take will place at our next meeting.

There being no other business to come before the meeting, Peggy K made a motion to adjourn, seconded by Joanne N.  All in favor, no opposed – meeting adjourned at 11:35 a.m.
