RECREATION COMMITTEE MINUTES  

The meeting of the WLE POA Recreation Committee was called to order by Tri Chair Terry Cucciniella  at

10:02 a.m. Saturday, May 13, 2023, in the Adult Lodge.  Thirty-six members stood and recited the Pledge of Allegiance.  

Minutes  

Minutes for April were sent to the members to review before the meeting. Terry asked if there were any additions or corrections. There were not.  Motion made to approve minutes by Jack Vetter, seconded by Diane Sutton; raise of hands; no opposition; minutes approved.

The treasurer’s report was read by Joey Marino. Balance forwarded on 3/31/2023 was $32,839.61.  April’s total revenue was $473.15; total expenses were $6,066.82.  Consequently, our general ledger balance for 4/30/2023 is $27,245,94.   The balance of our checking account is $27,245.94; venmo $500.00 and CD of $10,000.00 for a grand total of $37,745.94 on April 30, 2023.

Steve Kriso made a motion to approve Treasurers Report; seconded by Stephanie Bradford. By raise of hands and no opposition, Treasurer’s Report was accepted. 

OLD BUISNESS

Karaoke- In Martin Logue’s absence, Cassandra Galovic reported that 40 people attended the first and between 58 and 60 attended the second.  They will plan another.  Terry C advised that every Saturday night in July and August have an event…but Karaoke could be on any other night.

Going forward with more karaoke, Frank Carrotozzolo will get together with Lonnie Galovic regarding equipment.

Wildlife Preservation  presentation was an enormous success. Approximately 130 people attended. Gwenn Phillips made a motion to send a donation to them. Eileen McGregor thought our by-laws prohibit donations.  Gwenn removed motion. Terry C will check by-laws and advise. Decision will be tabled until next month.

Event packet – packet did not print well.  Decision tabled until next meeting.

Terry C reported problems with Rec events going to the office.  All Rec problems, questions should go to tri-chairs first. 

UPCOMING BUISNESS

Comedy night – May 27 date is sold out. 

Corn Hole Tournament-  Bill Raimondy reported there were six corn hole sets currently borrowed for event. It will be Saturday, May 27 at Rockledge Pool.  Several members had additional sets that could be used. There is no cost. Volunteers will be needed to referee. Different ages will compete according to the following schedule: 

8-12 yrs old     1 – 2:30pm

13-17 yrs old    2:30 – 4pm

18+                     4 – 5:30pm

Participants must sign up in office.  Cassandra G made a motion to give Bill a budget of $250 to cover expenses.  Terry Vetter seconded the motion, raise of hands, no opposition, motion was carried.

Scavenger Hunt – 5/27, 11am – Good to go.  Volunteers will be stationed outside on the Adult Lodge porch.

Memorial Day Bingo– Stephanie Bradford is ready to go- 5/28.  Doors open at 6:30, game starts promptly at 7pm.

Sip-n-paint- Terry C reported. First event on June 24, 7:00 P.M. in the MCH. $25 Per person, $26 if Venmo. A sunflower will be painted on wood. Glass painting is postponed to event on August 5.

Independence Day Picnic – A Caribbean Jerk food truck is coming.  Terry C asked if the committee would be interested in purchasing a cotton-candy machine. Some conversation ensued regarding usage, rental and storage.  Brenda Basenese made a motion to approve a budget of $500 to purchase machine; seconded by Terry Vetter. Cassandra and Siobhan volunteered to clean and store it.  Purchase of supplies to be part of event expenses.  All voted by a raise of hands, one opposition noted.

Family Glow Party– Stephanie B reported, flyers are out.  It will take place July 8 from 5-9pm. MCH. Night club scene for the whole family. DJ secured. Concession available (food and glow sticks). Appropriate music. 50-50. 

Texas Hold’Em – scheduled for July 14 and August 11, 7:30 p.m. in Beaver Lodge.  Details to follow.

Car Show – Jack Vetter said flyers were ready to go out.  They will be selling hot dogs.  Popcorn will be available.  Trophies will be awarded.  Jack suggested we add info on car show to our quarterly newsletter.  He was advised to check with Kathy Sollenne for due date. Event will be August 8 in field by Kasper Lodge.  Bob Kaminski advised deadline for quarterly is June.

Fishing DerbyTerry C announced she is getting ready to buy prizes.  Date is August 12 for ages 16 and under. Starts at Deer Beach at 11:00 a.m.

 

Beach PartyDetails to follow next month when Martin is present.

Tricky Tray – Kathy Jorden said she and volunteers have been busy working – doing very well.

June Meeting  – The WLE Annual Meeting is to be June 10.  Per usual, our meeting has to be changed.  Suggestion we have our meeting on Saturday, June 3, at 10:00 in the Adult Lodge.  All members were in agreement.

NEW BUISNESS

Sand art– Chairperson not in attendance; no report.

Summer bingo – Stephanie B ready for first week of Summer Bingo.  It will be Tuesday nights, starting July 4. The door opens at 6:30, games start promptly at 7pm.  Stephanie will need computer used for Bingo.  A “big  thank you” to Marge Kenny for her years of volunteering and chairing Bingo.

Craft store  Tara Stark expects to open shop the Saturday (May 27) of Memorial Day Weekend. She was complemented for obtaining discounts and negotiating successfully with vendors. Clothing  – she will have new colors and new items, including sweatpants.  She asked if she could use proceeds from opening weekend to purchase more stock – yes.  She will not accept advance sales.

Swim Team – Kathy Jordan advised they have two coaches so far, looking for a third.

Jaden Turner has been hired for Summer Recreation coordinator.  Plan is to hire some helpers as well.

Terry C advised that there will be no weekend Movie Night at Kasper Lodge’s field.  All weekends have events scheduled.

Frank C will continue with Wednesday Movie Nights starting July 4. A flyer with general information will be updated with each week’s movie title.  Start time will change as days get longer.

Triathlon questionable if held this year, past turnout has not been good.

Reminder that flyers go to tri-chairs FIRST for approval.

Brenda Basenese plans to offer free seminars on using social media.  How to use – how to protect oneself.  Most likely they will be during the week. She will come with dates at our next meeting.

Cassandra advised last Breakfast of season will be June 1. Program will resume in fall.

Card Bingo – Helen advised May 19 will be last one until fall.

Comedian – 7/22 – Uncle Floyd. Carol Greig asked if there is an update on this.  There is not, hopefully next meeting.

Golf Cart Parade – Will be held July 1.  Line-up starts at 10:00, parade at 11:00.  Jerry Beskovoyne to chair. One suggestion was to give participants a map of the route.

Bulletin Boards at Mailboxes.  Marge Kenny is moving to Florida and the job of keeping bulletin boards up-to-date needs to be filled.  Boards are in bad condition, need new strips.  Marge will ask Brian Stine to look at them to see what can be done.

Terry C advised summer program will need helpers.  Bill Raimondy offered his help.  Might have young teens helping if possible.

Gwenn and Bruce Phillips will chair Ceramics again.  It starts Friday, July 7.  Program is Tuesday and Friday, 1-3:00 at Beaver Lodge.  Sign up sheets for adult volunteers will be available at our next meeting.

Discussion held regarding the poor condition of the horseshoe pits, tennis court, and everything else at the Tennis Lane location.  Ed Jordan said the Board of Directors is aware and some work is already scheduled.

Pickle Ball is on a “first come, first served basis”.  Debbie and Gary McGrane chairing. Play from 5:00 – 7:00.

Dan Braun announced that our Memorial Day ceremony will be Monday, May 29 at 11:00 a.m. at Memorial Field.  If the weather is bad, ceremony will take place in the MCH.

There being no other business to come before the meeting, Rich Yack made a motion to adjourn, seconded by Peggy Kostyshyn.  All in favor, no opposed – meeting adjourned.
