RECREATION COMMITTEE MINUTES
The meeting of the WLE POA Recreation Committee was called to order by Tri Chair Lonnie Galovic at
10:05 a.m. Saturday, October 8, 2022, in the Adult Lodge. Twenty-five members stood and recited the Pledge of Allegiance.
Minutes from September not available. They will be tabled until November.
Treasurer’s report was read by Lonnie. Balance forwarded on September 30 was $29,132.78. Revenue was $8,253.18; expenses wee $528.35. Current balance in checking account: $36,857.61. The Venmo account’s balance is $500.00; CD $5,299.89. Total balance on hand is $42,657.50. Motion made to accept Treasurer’s report made by Bob Kaminski, motion approved.
Old Business:
Card Bingo was reported as a success. Thirty-nine people attending the first night.
Upcoming Business:
Hocus-Pocus will be held tonight. So far, 59 people have signed up; tickets are still available.
Sand Art Flowerpot was rescheduled for this afternoon. Joelle Lordi reported that she has 21 people signed up.
Talent Show – Stephanie Bradford reported that there is no interest now and will combine with an ice cream social sometime later.
Marble Distilling Pesentation will be next Saturday, October 15 at the main clubhouse. It will start at 7:30 p.m. and offer a tasting of five spirits. Kathy MacDowell is chairperson.
Family Halloween – Celebration will be held October 29 in the main clubhouse from 5:00 – 9:00 p.m. It will be a costume party. Admittance is $5.00 per person. Hamburgers/hot dogs and additional concession. So far 40 people interested. Cut-off date is October 25.
Trunk or Treat – Terry Cucciniello has ordered candy. Event will take place in parking lot between lake and main clubhouse. It will start at 2:00 and end at 4:00 Saturday, October 29. Participants must sign up in the office before October 25.
Festive Gathering – John, Heidi and Joelle chairing. This is planned for November 12 from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. It is a pot luck with everyone bringing a prepared dish. Must sign-up in the office by November 5. Joelle plans to have Joe Mongalieri provide music, games to play, 50/50, raffle and door prizes. John Carney is donating a turkey. She has a budget of $200. She hopes it will bring our community together. Deliver to shut-ins not included.
Warrior Ornaments – Joelle has a $200 budget. Plans for participants to make two ornaments – one for themselves and one for active duty military. Event will be in Beaver Lodge on November 19 from 2:00 – 6:00 p.m. Cost is $5 per person with craft, hot dog, chips and beverage.
Pre-Holiday Party – Casandra will chair. It will be Saturday, November 26 from 6:00 – 10:00 in the main clubhouse. Finger foods will be served, DJ with music. Event is a BYOB .
Very Berry Christmas – Casandra and Siobhan chairing. This will take place December 10 at the main clubhouse. Gift donations should be unwrapped.
They would like to purchase some backdrops for picture taking at various events. – more info to come
Discussion of replacing the clubhouse tree with a pre-lit tree and new decorations. Suggestion that new tree be 15’ tall. A motion to approve a budget of $200 was made and approved to buy decorations. Details for replacement trees presented at next meeting.
New Business:
Craft Fair – Kathy Navetta revealed plans for a craft fair in the Main Clubhouse on Saturday, December 3 from 12 noon to 4:00 p.m. All crafters will be WLE residents. No logo items will be sold except by The Craft Shop. Martin Logue made a motion to approve event, Nicole Kurz seconded, show of hands were all in favor, no opposed. Motion carried.
Christmas Tree Lighting – Will be held at 7:00 p.m., December 3. Terry Vetter informed committee that there will be a new tree. Beautification Committee and WLE plan for more trees planted throughout community. LED lights able to change colors will be installed.
Casandra is chairing. Women’s Luncheon Club will be asked to bake/donate cookies for hot chocolate which will be served in the clubhouse after the ceremony.
Fire Truck with Santa – Truck will be here December 3 at 4:00 p.m. Terry said all is ready.
New Year’s Eve – needs a chair. Martin would like to see a family event including a ball drop, BYOB. Details
provided next meeting.
Casandra volunteered to do flyers. She will need help in the summer when she runs Rock Ledge Snack Shack.
Advise Terry or Casandra when flyer needed.
Budget review – Casandra, Siobhan and Martin would like to bring back October Fest for Columbus Day weekend 2023 (Oct 7, 8, 9). Reminder that alternates be planned in case of bad weather. Jack Vetter reminded committee that wagon needs repair. Remove “Beautification” line in budget. Rick Bradford volunteered to look at wagon and report back to committee on what is needed to make wagon road ready.
Steve Kriso notified committee that structure of web site needs modifications. Steve made a motion to have budget of $100 in order to cover small fees. Martin seconded his motion, raise of hands approved without opposition.
Joelle L made a motion to have a Valentine’s Day Dance Feb 11. It would be for children and adults in the main clubhouse. She will supply details next month. Kathy MacDowell seconded the motion, no opposition – motion passed.
Discussion about outside holiday decorations. Committee to be formed including Jack Vetter, Martin L, Lonnie and Christine DeLuca.
Casandra and Nicole K restarting Thursday Breakfast on October 20. They will be in the Adult Lodge Thursdays from 8:30 – 10:30. If school delayed; breakfast delayed; no school – no breakfast.
Carol Greig made a motion to purchase a new Christmas Tree for the Adult Lodge. Martin and Casandra seconded, vote of hands with no opposition. Motion carried.
There being no further business to come before the meeting, Lonnie G made a motion to adjourn meeting, seconded by Peggy Kostyshyn seconded; meeting was adjourned at 11:20 a.m.
