RECREATION COMMITTEE MINUTES  

SEPTEMBER 9, 2023

The meeting of the WLE POA Recreation Committee was called to order by Tri Chair Lonnie Galovic at 10:04 a.m. Saturday, September 9, 2023, in the Adult Lodge.  Thirty members stood and recited the Pledge of Allegiance.  Terry Cucciniello was thanked for her last three years as tri-chair.

Minutes  

Minutes for July were sent to the members to review before the meeting. Lonnie asked if there were any additions or corrections.  There were none.  Al Cucciniello made motion to accept minutes, seconded by Rich Yack. Minutes accepted as presented.

The treasurer’s report was read by Joey Marino. Balance forwarded on 7/31/2023 was $34,661.09.  July’s total revenue was $18,310.76 total expenses were $5,115.22.  Consequently, our general ledger balance for August 31, 2023 is $47,856.63.   Our account includes checking, Venmo $500.00 and CD of $10,000.00 for a grand total of $48,356.63 on August 31, 2023.  Joanne Navarra made a motion to approve Treasurers Report; seconded by Rich Kurz.  All were in favor, no opposition, Treasurer’s Report was accepted. 

Lonnie thanked all volunteers for their time and work in running events.  

OLD BUSINESS

 

Board Liaison – Scott Healy -presented revised Event Package to BOD. Board approved Package.  Some question as to whether POA attorney had reviewed it.  Scott will double check regarding indemnity clause.

Event Package – Martin Logue made a motion to accept the event package and start to implement now.  Cassandra Galovic seconded motion, none opposed; motion was passed.

Outdoor MoviesFrank Carrotozzolo not in attendance.  Sue Mack inquired as to having movies during winter.  Committee will ask Frank.

Ceramics –Gwenn Phillips reported on success of program.  She will seek volunteers next year.  Inquiry about providing program on holiday weekends.  Gwenn will check.

UPCOMING BUSINESS

Music in the Park – program will continue next summer thanks to Terry Cucciniello. 

Summer Bingo – Stephanie Bradford reported on a very successful summer. She asked about checking badges going forward. After much discussion, committee supports badge checking, safety will be asked to support us, suggestion that reminder of badge wearing placed on channel 920, put reminder to wear badge on all flyers, reminder on information boards.  Scott H inquired on maximum capacity of Main Clubhouse = 175. When capacity reached, doors locked with note of explanation. (fire code)

  

Beach Party – Michelle and Martin Logue were thanked for a wonderful Beach Party. They thanked all the many volunteers who made it possible.  They will chair another party next summer.  Please advise Michele of any ideas you may have.

Triathlon – Was more successful than in the recent past, Terry reported that there were 14 entrants.  She will chair again next year. 

Cardboard Boat Building    Huge success.  Twenty-two boats participated; Deer Lake beach was packed.  Terry asked that any pictures taken please send then to Kathy Sollenne in office. 

Tricky Tray – Carol Grieg thanked everyone on Kathy Jordan’s behalf. Huge success; great response from Swim Team members. Profit made of approximately $10,000.

Card Bingo – Helen Marini reported on first Card Bingo –56 people attended.  Mic batteries faded – need AA batteries for mics.

Corn Hole – Tournament went well, everyone enjoyed, 72 participated. Weather permitting, another tournament to be held on Saturday, October 7 at Rockledge.  Some talk about corn hole rules.  Suggestion to put them on a flyer and have flyer posted at game.

Craft Shop – Tara Stark closed the shop.  Total revenue approximately $14,500,  $8,820 profit to Recreation.  Craft Shop will be open for Holiday Weekends.  She is planning to make two clothing orders – Memorial Day empties the shop.  Budget will be same:  $6,000.

UPCOMING BUSINESS:

Elections:  Ed Jordan nominated Martin Logue for tri-chair.  Martin accepted nomination.  Stephanie Bradford made a motion to elect Martin for a three-year term as tri-chair.  Peggy Kostyshyn seconded the motion.  By unanimous vote, motion carried and Martin is our new tri-chair.  Congratulations, Martin.

Thursday Coffee – Cassandra G will restart September 28, 9:30 a.m.  Price is $3.00, includes coffee, bagels, pastries.  If schools are delayed, coffee will delay to 10:30.  If school is cancelled, coffee is cancelled.  Mentioned that we need a better toaster – no opposition to purchasing one.

Trunk or Treat – Will be October 28 from 2:00 – 4:00 in parking lot between Main Clubhouse and lake.  Terry C will buy candy for same.

Adult and/or Family Halloween Party – Same date:  October 28, from 5:00 – 9:00 in the Main Clubhouse. Flyer will be posted.

NEW BUSINESS:

Pre-Holiday Party – Cassandra and Lonnie will chair.  Main Clubhouse, November 25 (Saturday after Thanksgiving), from 6 – 10:00.  Adults only party,  BYOB

Festive Gathering not happening

Hero’s Ornaments – Michele L. will chair.  Could take place late October.

CHRISTMAS TREE LIGHTING  Cassandra G will chair – December 2 at 7:00 p.m.  Usual event – tree lighting, carolers, hot chocolate and cookies served in the Main Clubhouse immediately following tree lighting. 

Very Merry Christmas – scheduled for December 16.

Digital Board  Terry C advised – the approximate cost of a digital board is $35,000.  Terry C made a motion that Recreation allocate $15,000 to share the cost of said board with the WLE POA. Cassandra G seconded the motion.  Lots of questions and discussion.  Jerry Beskovoyne not present at meeting to answer all questions.  He should be at next meeting to answer questions.  Need for electricity? does board operate on an APP? Maintenance costs.  .  In meantime, vote taken to allocate $15,000 to WLE POA for digital board.  By raise of hands, only one opposition.  Motion passed.

Camille Zambito asked about care of bocci court.  She felt court needs work. Something Maintenance could do?

Our $10,000 CD matured.  Martin L made a motion to renew it, seconded by Joanne Navarra, no opposition.  CD will be renewed.

Craft Fair – Kathy Navetta confirmed Second Annual Craft Fair for December 2, from 12:00-4:00 p.m., MCH. There is a $5.00 table fee; sign ups in the office. Kathy asked for a budget of $250 for incidentals.  Peggy Kostyshyn made a motion that the craft fair have a budget of $250, seconded by Richard Yack, no opposition, motion passed.

Michele L proposes a Karaoke Night over the October Holiday Weekend.  Saturday, October 7 in the Main Clubhouse if it is available.  Lonnie mentioned that he would be available to help.

Stephanie Bradford spoke about Bingo prizes.  Next meeting she will be prepared with a monetary budget allowing her more choice of vendors and prizes.

Cassandra G would like to see “Designer Bag Bingo” return.  Suggested tying it with Mothers’ Day (May 12).

  

There being no other business to come before the meeting, Peggy Kostyshyn made a motion to adjourn, seconded by Stephanie B.  All in favor, no opposed – meeting adjourned at 11:45 a.m.
