RECREATION COMMITTEE MINUTES  

MAY 11, 2024

The meeting of the WLE POA Recreation Committee was called to order by Tri Chair Lonnie Galovic  at 10:03 a.m., Saturday, May 11, 2024, in the Adult Lodge.  Twenty-five members stood and repeated the Pledge of Allegiance.  Board liaison Scott Healy was present.

Minutes  

Minutes for April’s meeting were sent via e-mail to all members. Terry Cucciniello advised Lonnie that there is a correction to the minutes.  The dates for Comedy Night are May 25 and July 20.  Lonnie presented a motion to accept the minutes as changed; seconded by Carolyn Guy. All were in favor; none opposed.  Minutes were accepted.

The treasurer’s report for April 2024 was read by tri-chair Joey Marino. Balance forwarded on March 31, 2024, was $47,568.26.  Total revenue was $971.92; total expenses were $7954.10. Ending balance at April 30 was $40,586.08.

Our account includes checking, Venmo $500.00 and CD of $10,000.00 and $40,586.08 in checking for a grand total of $51,086.08.  Frank Carrotozzolo made a motion to accept April’s Treasurer’s report, second by Diane Sutton.  All were in favor, no opposition, Treasurer’s report accepted as presented.

OLD BUSINESS

Eileen McGregor asked a question about Venmo account.  This led to a lot of discussion.  Some event chairs feel use of Venmo important to participation numbers. Venmo needs a phone account. The monthly cost of the phone was the reason committee asked office to close account. Some suggestions include  having a rec phone, using a tri-chair’s phone.  Frank C made a motion for a committee to investigate actual costs and report at the next meeting.  Peggy Kostyshyn seconded and Brenda Basenese volunteered to head this committee.  

Card Bingo– John Macek said Card Bingo is going well.  The last day of Card Bingo will be May 17.  The last game will be $5.  They hope to have sandwiches and dessert.  That will NOT be advertised. Card Bingo will resume September 6. 

Thursday Coffee– Casandra G. reported.  Last breakfast will be May 16, 2024. A hot breakfast will be served.

Crosstown Shuttle Duo  -was very entertaining.  Hope to have another group perform in the clubhouse.

Craft Shop – Shop opens May 25.  Tara will have lots of clothing. She thanked all the volunteers who have helped her to make the shop ready. She will have hats for sale.

Upcoming Business-

Swim Team – Carol Grieg passed Cathy Jorden’s message that there will be a Tricky Tray.  

Frank C advised committee that WLE BOD approved the $1,500 for Swim Team t-shirts and $1,000 for gifts.

Designer Bag Bingo and Lunch – Casandra reported that ticket sales were too low to have event.  She would like to try again.  No purchases were made.

Mothers’ Day Brunch –Mothers’ Day Brunch only has 35 participants as of today. Lonnie is going ahead with the event not to disappoint those that bought tickets.

Eileen McG advised that we do not have to make a profit on all events.  Committee agreed.

Bocce Ball TournamentMartin not at meeting.  Maintenance has begun work on courts. Tournament will be June 1 at 1:00 p.m.  Teams to sign-up in office.   Adults only, BYOB.

Lighten Up Band will play in the Clubhouse May 18 from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. Free event. BYOB 

Memorial Day Weekend Activities 

Family Bingo – Stephanie B not at meeting but ready to go.

Scavenger Hunt at Rockledge Saturday, May 25 at 11:00 a.m. Terry C not at meeting but ready. e

Meet Your Neighbors.  Terry not present – under control 

Corn Hole tournament – Moved to Sunday, May 26. Joey Martino will create a poster. Bill Raimondi all ready.     There will be three age categories:  8-12 year olds: 12:00 – 1:40 p.m.; 13-17 year olds: 1:30 -3:00 p.m.;

adults: 3:00 – 5:00 p.m.

Comedy Night –It will be Saturday, May 25 at the Main Clubhouse.  Doors open at 6:00; show starts at 7:00 p.m.                        Must be an adult to attend, BYOB.

Another Comedy Night –I will be Saturday, June 15 the Main Clubhouse.  Doors open at 6:00; show starts at 7:00 p.m.                        Must be an adult to attend, BYOB.

Appreciation Lunch/Dinner It is scheduled for June 15.  No announcement, flyer will not be published. 

Paint & Sip – Doreen not present.  Scheduled for Saturday, June 29, from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. in the Main Clubhouse. Price is $25 per person.

Terry C not present at meeting.  Consequently, following events have short or no report:

 

Independence Day – Terry advised Lonnie it is all set.

Texas Hold’Em.  Scheduled July 12 and August 9, Beaver Lodge, starting at 7:30 p.m., $20 entry fee.

Comedy Night will be July 20 in the Main Clubhouse. 

 

Flea Market – no report; date: July 20. 

Music in the Park –July 27 – Lady and the Vets 

Car Show – Al Cucciniello – same format; no hot dogs.  Date: August 10; Kasper Lodge field.

Triathlon – no report

Beach Party – 8/17 – no report.  Martin and Michelle not present.

Octoberfest – Per Casandra, not having much luck with vendors.  Expects to have an “all day” event.

Murder mystery night– Eileen McGregor reported that 76 tickets have been sold so far.

Frank C advised WLE BOD approved $2,000 “draw” set up to Craft Shop.

New  Business-

Frank C received call from Bob Assenheimer about cardboard.  Bob wondered if we were going to have a Cardboard Boat Race as we have had in the past.  Committee agreed to tell Bob “yes”.

Movies in the Park – Frank C will offer a movie the second and third Wednesdays in July (10th and 17th).  He will continue dependent on attendance.  Some discussion of ways to source movies.  A Kindle can be used with a “dongle”.  Frank needs any information available.

Event Package – Brenda B will have something for next meeting.

Social Media Volunteer – Brenda B introduced Shannon Smith to committee.  She is well versed in social media and will be volunteering as such.

Gwenn Phillips spoke about “Ceramics” (part of summer recreation). She had sign-up sheets to be circulated.  Asked members to volunteer.  Ceramics starts July 2 –  ends late August.  Volunteers needed for Tuesday and Friday afternoons in Beaver Lodge, 12:30 – 3:30.

Frank reminded committee that someone wanting a ticket for an event can still send a note to the office with a check in the correct amount.  Office will hold tickets for residents.

There being no further business to come before the committee a motion made by Peggy K to adjourn meeting, seconded by Eileen M.  All members in agreement. Meeting adjourned at 10:50 A.M.
