RECREATION COMMITTEE MINUTES  

The meeting of the WLE POA Recreation Committee was called to order by Tri Chair Lonnie Galovic at

10:00 a.m. Saturday, December 10, in the Adult Lodge.  Twenty-four members stood and recited the Pledge of Allegiance.  

Minutes  

Minutes for October were sent to the members to review before meeting. Lonnie asked if there were any additions or corrections. There were two corrections – the date of deadline for Very Merry Christmas and time for Tree Lighting.  Frank Carrotozzolo made a motion to accept the minutes as corrected, seconded by Nan Yack.  All members voted with a raise of hands, no opposition, minutes were approved.

Treasurer’s report was read by Lonnie.  Balance forwarded on September 30 was $37,590.42

Revenue was $1,883.55; expenses were $2,148.19.  Current balance in checking account: $37,325.78. The Venmo account’s balance is $500.00; CD $5,321.13.  Total balance on hand is $43,146.91. Motion made by Al Cucciniello to accept Treasurer’s report, seconded by Rich Yack.  Raise of hands, no opposition; motion approved.

Old Business:  

Festival Gathering – Original chair was not able to complete obligation and other members of committee rose to the occasion so event could be held. Event was a success.

Pre-Holiday Party – Casandra Galovic chaired.  She considered it “her most favorite event.”  Ninety-three people attended.

Craft Fair – Tara Stark reported that there was a good turnout.  They made $110 in table sales. Craft Shop sold at event and realized $275 in sales.  Hope to repeat it for next year.

Fire Truck with Santa – Truck arrived despite the weather.  Small hitch – new driver not familiar with outlined route.  Santa took a different ride than usual.

Christmas Tree Lighting – Good attendance.  Peggy  Kostyshyn led singers and Joe Mongalieri provided music.  Cookies and hot chocolate were served in MCH after event.

New Christmas trees purchased for MCH – 12’ and 9’ for Adult Lodge. Also purchased some new ornaments. Eileen McGregor donated topper with ribbons on MCH tree.

Upcoming Business:

Very Berry Christmas – Siobhan Harte advised that all was set up last night.  Approximately 120 people will attend.  Food will be sold as a concession; Santa and Mrs. Claus are ready.  She thanked everyone for the donations.

Hero’s Holiday – formerly Warrior Ornaments – Nicole Kurz rescued event.  She got a good discount from Drafts.  Sixteen people are signed up.

New Year’s Eve   To date there is no chairman.  Event will not take place.  

Super Bowl Party – Frank Carrotozzolo said the flyers should be coming out.  Food prices have skyrocketed, Lonnie G offered to make subs for cost of meat.  Super Bowl is Sunday February 12.

Frank C is bringing back the Cardboard Sled Race on President’s weekend, February 18, 19 and 20, 2023. A flyer is in the works.  Building sleds will be Saturday at Beaver Lodge, race Sunday 2/18 -depending on snow cover.

Bonfire chaired by Terry and Al Cuccinielo will take place Saturday, 2/18 at Deer Beach. Our fire pit needs to be replaced.  A motion to purchase a new fire pit for $500 was made by Diane Sutton, seconded by Jack Vetter.  Members raised hands, no opposition, motion passed.

Discussion held regarding updating event package.  Lonnie will look to revise with a volunteer group assembled after this meeting.  Frank C wondered who is advising office of building use.  Terry C talks to Kathy Sollenne after each Rec meeting to reserve buildings needed.

Supplies/Barn – Terry C working on organization of supplies.  Maintenance is building more storage in Beaver Lodge that will be temperature controlled.  Event chairs should contact Terry C when event supplies are ready to be stored.  Many storage bins available.

2023 Budget – Budget printouts were sent out prior to meeting.  Lonnie asked if members had a chance to look them over.  Dan Braun suggested that we increase “replacing equipment” line to $2,000.  Prior chair’s name deleted from events and updated chair’s name listed. Heidi Cohen made a motion to add budget of $2,000 for “Chalk the Walk” over Memorial Day weekend.  Questions about stencils and chalk leftovers – previous supplies are gone. Heidi wants to re-introduce a “Kids’ Event” for Independence Day celebration.  She has a budget of $2,000. Martin Logue requested an increased budget for St. Patrick’s Day to $1,500 from $1,250. All suggested changes to budget were presented in motion form with seconds and raise of hands – no opposition was expressed.  Siobhan suggested event chairs shop sales for decorations.  Lonnie G made a motion that we accept the budget as revised, seconded by Martin, no opposition; motion passed. Revised Budget will be submitted to WLE Board of Directors.

Christine DeLuca decorated the Wagon for the holidays. She had a bill to submit for payment.  Adding a line to the Rec budget was discussed. Is this a Recreation expense or a POA expense?  Al C suggested we ask POA.  If they do not reimburse, Recreation will.  Line item for $250 added to the budget for wagon decorating in the future. Diane Sutton made a motion to reimburse Christine if POA does not; seconded by Peggy Kostyshyn; all members agreed; motion passed.

New Business:

Ice Cream Social – Cassandra G will chair at the MCH during Wacky Winter Weekend.

Brunch/Breakfast – Lonnie will chair on Sunday morning Feb 19 in MCH as part of Wacky Winter Weekend, at 10:00 a.m.

Frank C will chair Cardboard Sled building on Saturday, February 18 in Beaver Lodger.  Cardboard Sled Race will take place the afternoon of Sunday, Feb 19, at Rockledge Pool Area.

Valentine’s Dance – Stephanie Bradford volunteer to chair an event in the MCH on February 11. with this theme.

St. Patrick’s Day – Martin L chairing.  It will be March 25 in the MCHS.  In addition to Irish Dancers, there will be a bagpiper.

Smallwares for Main Clubhouse – Lonnie explained that kitchen in MCH needs updated supplies such as chafing boxes. He will prepare a list of needed items and will bring to next meeting.  Maintenance will make the chafing boxes.

Frank C reminded committee that storage needs to be made for the two new Christmas trees – MCH and Adult Lodge.  Diane Sutton made a motion to ask Maintenance to build storage for the trees. Casandra G seconded the motion, by show of hands with opposition, motion passed.

Family Fun Nights – Lonnie suggested having a once-a-month Family Fun Nights.  Could include floor size Jenga, corn hole, giant Connect Four.  Committee will ask residents for donations of unwanted games. This will take place in MCH.

Since our checking account totals $37,325,78 investing in an additional CD is warranted.  Terry C made a motion to open a new, second $5,000 CD.  Bruce Phillips will check terms and initiate this.  Motion made by Jack Vetter, seconded by Dan Braun and approved by raise of hands with no opposition.

There being no further business to come before the meeting, Jack Vetter made a motion to adjourn meeting, seconded by Peggy K. All members agreed.  Meeting adjourned at 11:45 a.m.
