RECREATION COMMITTEE MINUTES  

February 10, 2024

The meeting of the WLE POA Recreation Committee was called to order by Tri Chair Lonnie Galovic at 10:02 a.m., Saturday, February 10, 2024, in the Adult Lodge.  Twenty-five members stood and repeated the Pledge of Allegiance.  Board liaison Scott Healy was present.

Minutes  

Minutes for January were sent via e-mail to all members. A motion was made by Al Cucciniello to accept the minutes as presented; seconded by Frank Carrotozzolo. All were in favor; none opposed.  Minutes were accepted.

The treasurer’s report for January was read by tri-chair Joey Marini. Balance forwarded on December 31, 2023, was $47,574.81.  Total revenue was $2.16 (interest); total expenses were $500,00. Ending balance at January 31 was $48,076.97.  Our account includes checking, Venmo $500.00 and CD of $10,000.00 for a grand total of $58,576.97.  Carolyn Guy made a motion to accept January’s Treasurer’s report, second by Nan Yack.  All were in favor, no opposition, January’s report accepted as presented.

Frank Carrotozzolo made a motion to move the $500 in the account earmarked for Venmo back into the Checking Account since using Venmo has been terminated.  Casandra Galovic seconded the motion, all approved, no opposition; motion carried.

OLD BUSINESS

Card Bingo– John Macek reported that Card Bingo continues as a success.  Possibility of adding hero sandwiches in March.

Thursday coffee– Casandra reported that continues successfully.  There will be no breakfast on February 22.

Big Game Party – Frank C sold 60 tickets, all set. Decorating MCH today.

Wacky Winter Weekend coming up – 2/17 -2/18:  Frank C chairing Ice Cream Social.  He needs help, Rich and Nan Yack volunteered as did Bill Raimondi. Bonfire – Terry C ready, weather dependent,  Saturday 2/17 at Deer Beach. Cardboard Sled Building and Cardboard Sledding chaired by Frank C, weather permitting.  Family Bingo – Sunday 2/18. Stephanie B – Doors open at 6:30, play begins at 7:00 p.m.

Comment that office told individual they did not have to sign up for sled building since chance of snow is slight.  We will ask that office not cancel our events before they take place. Since the weather has not cooperated the last few years, Stephanie B suggested Recreation look into a snow-making machine.  Some discussion.

Digital Board– Jerry Beskovoyne was not at the meeting. However, he did advise Lonnie that POA not currently pursuing this.  We will leave it be for now. Jerry also responded to questions raised at last Rec meeting:  The IP address is protected; POA would pay all fees and insurance.

Upcoming Business-

St. Patrick’s Day Party planned for 3/23 in the Main Clubhouse. Martin reported that he has had no luck getting bagpipers.  John Mollohan had some suggestions. Flyer going out. Time will be 5:00 – 9:00 p.m.

Easter Egg Hunt – Casandra is ready – has between 3,000 and 4,000 eggs.  Easter Bunny is ready.   Casandra will gather a group to fill them.  Date is Saturday, March 30, 11:00 – 1:00 at the Main Clubhouse

Designer Bag Bingo– Casandra chairing and Tara Stark co-chair. Planned for the Saturday before Mothers’ Day (May 11, 2024).  She would like to combine with a luncheon in the Main Clubhouse from 1:00 – 5:00 p.m.  She made a motion to have a budget of $3,500; approved. Approximate ticket price of $35 per person, 100 people expected. Flyer to be out week after next.

Mothers’ Day Brunch – Lonnie planning a Mothers’ Day Brunch on Sunday, May 12, 2024 in the Clubhouse.  He expects cost to be $15 – $20 per person.  He made a motion to be approved for a $1500 budget, John Mollahan seconded.  All members approved, no opposition, motion carried.

Memorial Day WeekendFamily Bingo will be held Sunday, May 26.  Stephanie advised doors will open at 6:30, games start at 7:00.  Terry C will chair a Scavenger Hunt on Saturday, May 25 starting at the Rockledge lawn at 11:00 a.m. Terry C will also chair Meet Your Neighbors.  Bill Raimondi will chair a Corn Hole tournament – also at Rockledge on May 25.  Bill R requested a budget of $100 for drinks, seconded by Martin L.  Members raised their hands, all in favor, no opposition; motion passed.

New Business-

Appreciation Lunch/Dinner committee decided best time for this would be after a Rec meeting.  It is scheduled for June 15.  No announcement/flyer will be published. 

Terry C has scheduled two bands for an Evening in the Main Clubhouse. The dates are:  April 20 and May 18.  Terry made a motion to have a budget of $325 to pay for The Crosstown Shuttle,    Paula Baker seconded the motion.  Terry made a second motion for a budget of $500 on May 18 with Lighten Up.  Sue Mack seconded that motion. Vote of raised hands taken for both dates, no opposition, Motions passed. Both events will be free, no food involved.

Inventory of Decorations Terry is compiling an inventory of decorations and supplies used during events.

Murder mystery night– Stephanie Bradford chair, scheduled for October 19, Main Clubhouse, BYOB, over 21. Stephanie is ready to book secure date.  Activity to be brought up to BOD.  Stephanie will wait for their approval before booking.  

  

Summer Events – Frank C recommended that Terry C prepare a tentative schedule for summer events.  She will clarify with Frank about summer activities and Music in the Park.

Independence Day Celebration – July 6.  Terry C has secured food truck, working on a beer truck for this date and possibly Octoberfest. The co-chair for this event is Angie DeFrancesco.

Terry C announced that there are two dates for Texas Hold’Em.  They are July 12 and August 9, Beaver Lodge, starting at 7:30 p.m., $20 entry fee.

Terry announced the Comedy Nights will be July 20 and August 17 in the Main Clubhouse.

Cassandra spoke about Octoberfest that she and Terry C would like to chair.  Date will be October 12; activities will take place in Kasper Field, from 12:00 noon – 6:00 p.m.Lonnie will pursue suppliers.  They plan to include face painting, Pumpkin Patch, Corn Hole, cotton candy, popcorn, tug of war, chili contest, band, “bouncy” house, mechanical bull. Participants will have to sign up in the oiffice. 

Conversation then went to Wagon in front of barn and its use and required repairs.  Tri-chairs will meet with John Carney.   Reminder that Beautification does decorate for holidays.

Doreen Napoli has a Paint & Sip planned for Friday, June 28, from 7:00 – 9:00 in the Main Clubhouse.  This would be like past events.  She was contacted by resident to have similar event using wood backs.  More details to follow.

Doreen N and Kathy Sollenne approached the committee regarding funding bus expense for Bus Trips. Doreen shared the results she obtained regarding a trip from WLE to the Scranton Cultural Center.  Suggestion for a trip to Wind Creek.  No decision made, Doreen will consider other possibilities. Committee members will give it thought.  

Fatima Perez made offer to provide dance lessons as she has in the past.  She will resend details to the tri-chairs.  She would offer one free class to determine interest.   Charges cannot be part of recreation per the guidelines. Lessons will be a private discussion between client and instructor.  Martin L suggested Wednesday night, March 20 for the free presentation at the Main Clubhouse from 7:00 – 9:00. Fatima must fill out event package.  Sign-ups in the office.  

There being no further business to come before the committee a motion made by Al Cucciniello to adjourn meeting, seconded by Rich Yack.  All members in agreement. Meeting adjourned at 12:10 P.M.
